A Sweet Six Years Old

{ two weeks old. }

{ three months old. }

Hard to believe our middle Princess is turning six today.
I feel like once you need two hands to show people how old you are, it starts the countdown to high school, college and moving out. I see our Myriam's life whisk by now that she needs an extra thumb to show us her age. Her looks have changed overnight from our little girl to grown child that thinks she's already a teen.
How did this happen?
It was just yesterday we drove her birth parents to the hospital and anticipated her birth. It was just yesterday we brought her home and introduced her to the rest of our family. It feels like just yesterday that we celebrated her first birthday.
Reality tells me time has not stopped and Myriam indeed is celebrating her
sixth birthday whether I like it or not.

 { two's and three's. }

Myriam was an early walker at nine months old and climbing by nine months and a day. She's been our busy, curious child from the beginning. To say she keeps us on our toes is speaking lightly to the chasing we normally do. There is no medium; it's loud or silent; fast or sleeping. Myriam is passionate about her singing and can often sing like she's on some Broadway musical including expressions and dance moves. She loves anything princess, coloring or has a mechanism to feed herself sugar. She has mad climbing, sneaky skills that often get her into trouble and someday will come in handy when rock climbing. Our neighbors have me on speed dial for the random visits made without permission from the boss (a.k.a. Mom or Dad). She prefers "the wife" over "the husband," but has been known to sit down on the couch and watch TV
regardless if neighbor Tom asked for company.

Myriam turns strangers into best friends and can make you laugh in the hardest of moments. On the opposite end, the girl feels deeply and loves her family fiercely. Although, some of those loving feelings can be shown through creative ways sometimes resulting in parenting skills that force caring, sibling relationships... e.g. Hand holding on the car ride to Papa and Nana's house to reinforce the friendship.

Myriam, also known as Mimi with her siblings, loves her Daddy snuggles and sister selfies. You'll often find outfits chosen by yours truly that frequently have multiple patterns and color options. Pick your battles. If given a choice, hot lunch versus Mom-made cold lunch.
To think about what Myriam will be when she grows up is exciting and scary, but one thing stays the same; she will be a world changer that we, as her parents, can't wait to see play out. God chose us to be her parents. A gift that has blessed us as parents and child. A daughter we were meant to love, pray for, laugh with and cry, stress and advocate for, nourish and train.
Myriam: wished for; longed for.
Sweet Mimi...Happiest of happy birthdays to you as we celebrate the six years God has given us, this far, creating memories with you and having fun.
